Abstract:BackgroundDeep brain stimulation (DBS) is still an experimental treatment modality for psychiatric disorders including treatment-resistant depression (TRD). There is preliminary evidence that stimulation of brain reward circuit structures including the ventral striatum (VS) may exert an antidepressant effect.
