The Vapor Pressures and Enthalpies of Sublimation of Five Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Abstract: The vapor pressures over benz [a] Les pressions de vapeur du benz[a]anthracCne (B[a]A), benzo[a]pyr6ne (B[a]P), benzo[e]pyr6ne (B[elP), benzo[ghi]pCrylene (B[ghi]P) et coronene ont t t t mesurtes a I'aide de la methode de perte de poids par effusion de Knudsen. Les parametres A et B dans ]'equation log,, [~( a t m ) ]= -(A/T) + B e t les enthalpies de sublimation en kcal mol-' ainsi derives sont respectivement: B[a]A, 5925 -t 36, 10.045

“…Equation {B5} has been successfully utilized to calculate equilibrium vapor pressures of organic compounds by many workers [Morecroft, 1964;Wiedemann, 1972;DePablo, 1976;DeKruif, 1980;Colomina et al, 1980;Colomina et al, 1982;Kelley and Rice, 1964;Murray and Pottie, 1974]. As was noted above, the steady state pressure P ss may be expected to be slightly less than equilibrium pressure P eq .…”

“…This could be applicable in the case of high diurnal temperature deviations also. Murray et al (1974) showed that for a temperature change of 20°C there is approximately an order of magnitude change in the vapour pressure of PAHs.…”
