The value of narrow band imaging in diagnosis of head and neck cancer: a meta-analysis

Abstract: Head and neck cancer is difficult to diagnose early. We aimed to estimate the diagnosis value of narrow band imaging(NBI) in head and neck cancers. We identified relevant studies through a search of PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library. We used a random effect model. Subgroup analysis and meta-regression analysis were performed to estimate the factors which may influence the sensitivity and specificity of the NBI. We included 25 studies with total 6187 lesions. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive … Show more

“…In 2018, Zhou et al [34] published a meta-analysis assessing the value of NBI endoscopy in the diagnosis of cancerous lesions of the head and neck area. Sensitivity is 88.5%, specificity 95.6%, area under the curve AUC 96.94%.…”

“…Furthermore, bladder cancer shows relatively higher Prx II expression in early stages and it reduces significantly with bladder cancer progression to malignant stages. Expression of Prx II in lymphoma further depends on the lymphoma cell type because, Prx II is silenced in Hodgkin lymphoma but not in Burkitt lymphoma which belongs to non-Hodgkin lymphoma [ 114 , 115 ].…”

“…Head and neck cancers consist of a wide range of cancers including oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers, nasopharyngeal cancers and laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancers [ 114 ]. Prx II has been reported to express highly in those cancers and protect head and neck cancer cells from oxidative stress and radiation-induced cellular damages.…”

“…Head and neck cancer include oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancers, nasopharyngeal cancers, and laryngeal and hypo-pharyngeal cancers. 1 It is estimated that by the end of year 2020 over 10 million people worldwide would die of cancer every year and about 66% of these would be from developing world like India (WHO-UCC 2003). 2 Globocan 2012, states incidence of head and neck cancer every year is about 683235/1000, 000, the mortality is 375664/1000,000.…”
