“…The main controversy surrounding the MCMI has focused on the claim that the test measures DSM-III disorders (Millon, 1983(Millon, , 1985(Millon, , 1986Widiger & Frances, 1987;Widiger & Sanderson, 1987;Widiger, Williams, Spitzer, & Frances, 1985, 1986. The data available tend to show that the concordance between the MCMI-I and the DSM-III may be poor, perhaps for both the Axis I clinical syndromes (e.g., Bonato, Cyr, Kalpin, Prendergast, & Sanhueza, 1988;Bryer, Martinez, & Dignan, 1990;Cantrell & Dana, 1987;Gibertini & Retzlaff, 1988;Goldberg, Shaw, & Segal, 1987;Marsh, Stile, Stoughton, & Trout-Landen, 1988;Miller & Streiner, 1990) and the Axis II personality disorders (Widiger & Sanderson, 1987).
