Despite its importance, teaching speaking in English classes has become challenging. First, most teachers cannot encourage students to speak English because of a lack of time. Secondly, as a result of their fear of making mistakes, the students rarely engage in English-speaking classes. Similarly, the writers identify this issue when teaching speaking to second-semester English Language and Literature (BBI) students at Universitas Bunda Mulia. The students are reluctant to speak out in class and, when they do, they talk in a very low voice. On top of that, the writers also noticed that the students rely so much on their notes. This study aims to study to what extent vlogs help students to speak English in a class by using Classroom Action Research (CAR). There are 71 participants from the first semester, majoring in English Language and Literature (BBI). The data is taken from questionnaires result, and interviews with samples of the participants. In addition, a ratter is invited for collaboration to assess the pre-test and post-test. The study reveals that vlogs in speaking classes improve students' test scores by encouraging open communication and enhancing confidence, professionalism, and improvability. It helps students practice speaking English in front of an audience.

Abstract. Rule-Based Model for Javanese Language Text Transliteration from Latin to Javanese Script. Computer technologies today have reached an applicable level to aid with language learning and translation. These technologies should also be helpful in learning traditional languages that are getting forgotten due to globalisation. With its rich cultural diversity, Indonesia facesthe same fate asits regional languages. Javanese, for example, is declining in its proper usage in written and spoken language. This research aims to provide a rule-based model for transliterating Javanese words written in Latin to Javanese script using Unicode. The model is based on extracted rules in writing the script to make it possible to be used as a model for other similar Nusantara scripts. The model yields 96,44% accuracy rate, which is adequate to provide decent transliteration for basic Javanese language learners and is open for additional rules to improve its ability to transliteratemore complex structures, contexts, as well rules for different Nusantara languages. Keywords: Rule-based model, Syllabification, Transliteration, Javanese Abstrak. Teknologi komputer masa kini telah mencapai kemajuan yang dapat membantu pembelajaran dan penerjemahan bahasa. Teknologi ini selayaknya juga dapat dimanfaatkan untuk membantu pelestarian bahasa-bahasa daerah yang semakin terlupakan. Indonesia dengan berbagai suku bangsanya juga menghadapi masalah dengan menurunnya penggunaan bahasa daerah, misalnya Bahasa Jawa. Penelitian ini mengusulkan sebuah model berbasis aturan untuk alih aksara teks berbahasa Jawa dari aksara Latin ke aksara Jawa Unicode. Model ini didasarkan pada ekstraksi aturan penulisan aksara Jawa, dengan harapan agar dapat digunakan sebagai model transliterasi bahasa-bahasa Nusantara yang serupa. Hasil uji dengan tingkat akurasi sebesar 96,44% menunjukkan bahwa model ini mampu melakukan transliterasi untuk pembelajar aksara Jawa dasar, mudah diduplikasi dan dapat dikembangkan untuk menyempurnakan kemampuannya untuk mengenali sruktur dan konteks yang lebih kompleks.Kata Kunci: Model berbasis aturan, Silabifikasi, Transliterasi, Bahasa Jawa.

The practice of English language teaching has dramatically changed with the existence of Internet-based learning platforms. The educational technology provides EFL students with a variety of language learning materials that can be accessed at any time and anywhere. These phenomena might threaten the teacher's existence. Thus, this study aims to figure out whether or not EFL teachers’ roles can be replaced by technology and to explore what qualities they should possess and maintain to prevent them from redundancy due to the domination of mobile-based language learning applications. A mix-method design was utilized to obtain the quantitative data through an online survey and qualitative data through an open-ended question. 199 EFL learners participated in the online survey, which consisted of a yes/no question on whether teachers could be replaced by mobile apps and an open-ended question to record the reasons. The findings showed that 132 students (66.3%) thought that teachers could not be replaced by mobile technology; meanwhile, around one-third of the respondents, 67 students (33.7%) had the opposing thought. The students still require human interaction, a sense of emotion, and delivery over the mobile tech features that could provide availability, flexibility, and practicality. It is highly recommended that English teachers maintain their humane qualities while keep adapting to technology to save themselves from redundancy.
