The Ministry of Education (MOE) has traditionally placed a strong emphasis on both the teaching and learning of English as a second language by its learners. It is crucial for the Malaysians as a second language users of English to improve their language skills especially speaking skills as it enables language users to be very much involved in verbal communication for the motive of providing and exchanging information as well as establishing long term bonding. Acquiring better speaking knowledge presents a severe challenge for ESL learners who struggle with their speaking, therefore, educators moved beyond traditional teaching approaches to modern ones that involve various tools such as social media which is a new technique for improving their learners' speaking skills. This systematic review focuses on the effectiveness of social media in improving speaking skills of ESL learners. This paper provides a systematic review of relevant published studies on the effectiveness of social media in improving the speaking skill of ESL learners from the year 2017 to 2021. This systematic review tries to answer a research question, i.e., what are the benefits of using social media in enhancing the speaking skills of ESL learners? For this research, fifteen studies were chosen to be reviewed in detail. The findings show that social media is an excellent resource that can be utilized by the educators during teaching and learning of ESL classroom since it improves their speaking skill as well as boosts ESL learners' motivation level and gives suggestions and information on content on how educators can integrate social media into their own teaching methods. As a suggestion for further study in the future, more attention could be paid to investigating the usefulness of social media in teaching and learning of English Language skills including listening, reading and writing.

The Use of Animated Elements to Increase Students’ Understanding in Geography Subjects

This study aims to analyze the level, relationship, and contribution among the variables of readiness, motivation, interest, and attitude towards animated elements application in the subject of geography among Form 1, secondary school students in Jempol district, Negeri Sembilan. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey design and questionnaires. The sample of the study consisted of 320 first grade students selected by simple random sampling, while the selection of the school was done by stratified random sampling. Descriptive analyzes (mean, percentage) and inferential analyzes (Pearson correlation, linear regression) were used to answer each study question. The results of the study show that willingness (M = 4.707, SP = .438), motivation (M = 4.750, SP = .421), interest (M = 4.784, SP = .388), and attitude toward the use of animation elements (M = 4.747 and SP = .469) are at a high level. The results of Pearson correlation analysis showed that there was a significant positive relationship between attitude toward using animation elements versus willingness r (.855) =. 000, p <.01, motivation r (.928) =. 000, p <.01, and interest r (.893) =. 000, p <.01. In addition, linear regression analysis showed that motivation and interest contributed 89.5 percent to students' attitudes toward using animated elements in the subject of geography with a value of R2 = .895, F = 896.596, p <.005. In conclusion, this study shows that students' willingness, motivation, and interest in using animated elements in the subject of geography are very high. This shows that the use of animated elements in the formal education of teachers in schools leads to changes in students' learning in the study area. The results of this study can be used by schoolteachers or subject teachers to improve the use of animated elements as a teaching tool in geography for students' learning.

Pembelajaran berasaskan teknologi dilihat mampu memberi impak yang positif terhadap pencapaian murid di peringkat sekolah menengah. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk melihat penggunaan video YouTube bagi meningkatkan minat dan pencapaian murid dalam pembelajaran Geografi Fizikal di sekolah menengah. Kajian ini dilaksanakan di sebuah sekolah menengah sekitar daerah Kulim Kedah. Rekabentuk kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kuasi eksperimen yang terdiri daripada dua kumpulan dan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dalam proses pengumpulan data dan penganalisisan data kajian. Populasi kajian adalah seramai 160 murid pelajar tingkatan 3 dan sampel kajian ini adalah persampelan bertujuan berdasarkan ciri yang di tetapkan yang terdiri daripada 64 orang murid-murid Tingkatan 3 yang dibahagikan kepada kumpulan kawalan dan kumpulan rawatan. Instrumen yang digunakan adalah soal selidik dan set ujian pencapaian untuk mengukur tahap pencapaian dan minat murid terhadap penggunaan video YouTube dalam pembelajaran Geografi. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan terdapat peningkatan pencapaian markah yang ketara bagi kumpulan rawatan kerana sangat minat murid terhadap penggunaan video YouTube dalam Geografi fizikal berbanding dengan kumpulan kawalan. Ini menunjukkan penggunaan bahan pengajaran seperti video YouTube dapat meningkatkan pencapaian dan ramai pelajar yang berminat untuk belajar Geografi atau mata pelajaran lain yang lebih berpotensi. Kesimpulannya kajian ini dapat memberi kesan positif kepada murid dan guru dalam mengaplikasikan penggunaan video YouTube dalam kelas.
