Cyberbullying among children is increasing every year, leading to serious public health problems. Victims suffer serious aftereffects such as depression and suicidal ideation; therefore, early and appropriate psychological intervention and the role of schools are emphasized. This study investigated the effects of school sandplay group therapy (SSGT) on children affected by cyberbullying. This study was designed as a parallel-group non-randomized controlled trial. The study subjects were 139 elementary school students (mean age 11.35 years; standard deviation, 0.479; age range 12–13 years) residing in Cheonan City, Korea, who were assigned to the intervention and comparison groups. The intervention group received 10 sessions of therapy on a weekly basis, for 40 minutes per session. No therapy was administered in the control group. The effectiveness of the intervention was assessed using the Children Depression Inventory, Suicidal Ideation Questionnaire-Junior, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The assessment for the comparison group was performed concurrently with that of the intervention group. Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance. In this study, the SSGT group showed a significant decrease in depression and suicidal ideation compared to the control group after sandplay group therapy (SGT), and a significant increase in self-esteem. It was confirmed that SSGT can mitigate the negative consequences of cyberbullying and strengthen protective factors. This suggests that the SSGT can be successfully used for crisis counseling.

Experimentar un acontecimiento traumático durante una etapa de desarrollo como la infancia y la adolescencia se relaciona con un mayor riesgo de problemas de salud física y mental durante el resto de la vida. Dada la alta prevalencia de experiencias traumáticas en la infancia, es necesario contar con técnicas como la caja de arena, que permitan trabajar el trauma de una manera adaptada a estos/as niños/as. El objetivo de esta revisión es recopilar la evidencia existente sobre la eficacia de Sandplay Therapy (ST) en el tratamiento del trauma con niños/as y adolescentes. Los resultados muestran un efecto significativo de ST en síntomas post- traumáticos, internalizantes y externalizantes, así como en la adherencia de adolescentes a la terapia y en el bienestar de menores que han sufrido traumatización colectiva (desastres naturales, atentados etc.). Aunque los estudios de esta revisión muestran evidencia esperanzadora, hay una carencia de estudios y es necesario someter la ST a más investigaciones, con diferentes poblaciones y contextos. De esta manera, se confirmará el beneficio que esta herramienta puede aportar al tratamiento del trauma infantil, en el campo de la psicología clínica y en el de los servicios de protección a la infancia.

Promoting Mind–body Health in Schools: Interventions for Mental Health Professionals.

T he expressive arts represent multiple modes and channels of communication that provide individuals the opportunity to share and connect with others in ways that verbal communication may not. Visual art, music, dance and movement, drama, expressive writing, and sandtray are the primary expressive arts modalities used by professional helpers. The clinical application of the creative arts creates an environment in which multilayered self-discovery experiences can take place. Cobbett (2016) noted that the use of nonverbal expressive therapies may be especially effective in the neurological integration that facilitates healing from trauma and emotionally distressing events. Knill, Barba, and Fuchs (2004) developed an expansive theory of creative arts in therapy that addressed the value of intermodal expressive therapy. This theory supports the integration of multiple forms of the expressive arts into clinical practice to allow each clinician to find the best fitting selection of interventions and modalities for their unique client populations. This is considered the heart of intermodal expressive therapyusing the mediums that personally resonate for practitioners and clients.
