The use of maternity statistics at a local level

Abstract: Midwives go to considerable efforts to record information about the women and babies for whom they care. Many may be unclear about the extent to which this information and the statistics derived from them can be used. In the first of two articles we describe the need for accurate and complete maternity information and the use which can be made of this information at a local level.
