Abstract:Anthropogenic pollution represents a major concern for aquatic ecosystem, which has been affected by a complex cocktail of heterogeneous compounds that may provoke significant toxic effects to the living organisms. Among the available techniques to assess effects, a combined use of chemical analyses and biological responses (biochemical, physiological and molecular) is a sound procedure for detecting impact of anthropogenic contaminants in freshwater systems.
