The use of electrospun nanofibers for absorption and separation of carbon dioxide: A review

Abstract: Air pollution as a result of industrialization is a serious problem in many developed and developing countries. Gaseous nitrogen oxides (NOx) and sulfur oxides (SOx) produced primarily due to the coal combustion process and automobiles, cause severe environmental problems such as acid rain, smog, ground level ozone etc. These have far reaching consequences on the ecosystem and in many cases direct toxicology effects on humans. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) are another important c… Show more

“…37 Narrow micropores in adsorbent materials (∼ 0.8 nm) represent the ideal size of pores for CO 2 adsorption. 2 Metal−organic frameworks with coordinatively unsaturated metal ions with partial positive charges on the metal sites have the advantage of Lewis acidity. Consequently, a high heat of CO 2 adsorption (Q st ), even at low pressure, is one of the results.…”

“…1 At present, in industry and laboratories, carbon oxide is adsorbed through special solvents, solid adsorbents, membranes, ionic liquids, MOFs, polymeric membranes comprising composite electrospun nanofiber membranes, etc. 2 Research and publication on CO 2 capture started about half a century ago, in 1975. 3 For the first time, MOFs were applied for CO 2 adsorption by Yaghi's group in 1998.…”
