Abs~~ct-The paper presents an advanced scheme for the shunt comp~n §ation of the d~ §tribu~iQn system that can significantly im~rove the harmonic le of the line without increasing the system c o~p~e~~t y and The scheme employs a transformerless a~rang~ment of 3-level GTO inverters that can generate a §-level o u t p~t~ A gate control is developed that fully utilizes the capabili~~es of this arran~ement to provide a 12-pulse operation for the compensator. The proposed compensator can connect directly to the ~~s t r~b u t i~n grid without a transformer. The effect~veness and performance of the proposed compensator are tested through simulated studies on a 13.8 kV distribution system.
