The Use of Cone‐Beam Computed Tomography in Management of Patients Requiring Dental Implants: An American Academy of Periodontology Best Evidence Review

Abstract: The current available literature reflects an increased optimization of emerging CBCT imaging protocols and further highlights its diverse applications for dental implant therapy. This technology continues to be considered an advanced point-of-care imaging modality and should be used selectively as an adjunct to two-dimensional dental radiography. As with other ionizing radiation imaging modalities, CBCT imaging should be used only when the potential benefits to the patient outweigh the risks. Dental health car… Show more

“…This clinical report describes the treatment option for replacement of a missing central incisor, using two retainer RBFDP made from ZrO 2 ceramics. The choice of two retainers provided greater contact with the surface of the enamel, contributing to the union of the structure to the abutment teeth . In addition, studies have shown higher fracture resistance for RBFPD from two retainers than for cantilever RBFPDs …”

“…The application of CBCT in dentistry has grown greatly with a clear impact on implant dentistry. This consensus report is based on a review of the best available evidence on this topic (Rios, Borgnakke, Benavides 3 2017) as well as expert opinion as to whether CBCT imaging should become the standard of care for patients requiring dental implants.…”
