The use of animal manure in the organic cultivation of Passiflora incarnata L. increases the content of phenolic compounds in the leaf and the antioxidant activity of the plant

Abstract: Mg, and S were observed at 90 DAT. Plants fertilized with cattle and poultry manures presented increases in the total phenol content and antioxidant activity in relation to the control plants (without fertilization), in both harvest seasons (90 and 150 DAT). In conclusion, fertilization of P. incarnata with cattle and poultry manure did not result in dry biomass gains, but promoted an increase in the quality of the raw material (higher phenolic concentration and antioxidant activity).

“…In addition, the use of agronomic management that improves the content of phenolic compounds is a strategy for crop production with greater phytochemical value. , For this purpose, the use of different fertilizers has been evaluated, such as organic fertilizers and conventional fertilizers, , which have been effective in increasing the content of phenols and flavonoids in different plant species. In addition, inoculants can encourage the formation of phenolic compounds, which are naturally occurring poisons that help protect plants from harmful organisms . Bacteria, such as Azotobacter sp., Azospirillum sp., Bacillus sp., and Pseudomonas sp., also increase the content of phenolic compounds.…”

“…Tendo em vista que a adubação orgânica auxilia na manutenção das propriedades do solo e favorece a ciclagem de nutrientes, e que recomenda-se o cultivo orgânico ou agroecológico de plantas medicinais, esta prática contribui para a produção de matéria-prima de qualidade e dentro dos padrões exigidos pelos programas de saúde pública e indústrias fitoterápicas (PACHECO et al, 2021;SALEHI et al, 2018).…”
