The use of a semi-flexible bipyrimidyl ligand for the construction of azide-based coordination polymers: structural diversities and magnetic properties

Abstract: The use of a semi-flexible bipyrimidyl ligand, 5,5′-bipyrimidine, afforded four new 2D and 3D azide-based coordination polymers with diverse structures and magnetic properties.

“…It is also larger than the spin-only value of 3.74 cm 3 K/mol for the two uncoupled Co 2+ centers with S = 3/2 and g = 2, indicating strong spin-orbital coupling interactions. The χMT values drop significantly to 0.89 cm 3 K/mol at 25 K and then show a spike feature at 5 K, which is normal for antiferromagnetically coupled Co II ions and probably indicates a spin canting phenomenon [20]. However, our attempt to analyze the magnetic properties of 2 by following Rueff's phenomenological approach afforded no acceptable results.…”

“…The plot of T vs. 1/χ M exhibits the linear relationship between 50 and 300 K and adheres to the law of Curie-Weiss, and the Curie constant of C and Weiss constant of θ is 2.86 cm 3 •mol -1 •K and −2.67 K, respectively. For the Weiss constant, its negative value in-depth proves that between the Co(II) ions, there is an antiferromagnetic interaction [21][22][23].…”

“…A few 2D MOFs have been reported to have ferromagnetic ordering and spin canting well below room temperatures. On the contrary, ferromagnetic behavior including ferromagnetic ordering, spin-canting, and spin-glass like behavior has been observed only in a few 2D MOFs. , A few reports discussed the presence of ferrimagnetism in 2D MOFs. …”

“…This coupling is weak enough by the moderate field 2.7 T at 2 K to provide a metamagnetic spin-flop transition with a small hysteresis (0.2 T) . Two more MOFs with azide ligands also show metamagnetism below 10 K . In some cases, the metamagnetic behavior is also modulated by solvent and further accompanied by magnetic relaxation ,, and spin canting. …”
