The use of 3D ceramic block graft compared with autogenous block graft for rehabilitation of the atrophic maxilla: a randomized controlled clinical trial

Abstract: Background Dental implant placement may require a bone graft for vertical and horizontal alveolar ridge augmentation. Due to its osteoconduction, osteoinductive, and osteogenesis, autogenous bone graft characteristics are considered the standard gold treatment. However, autografts can promote postoperative morbidity and implicate difficulties concerning the graft adaptation to the recipient's bone since it can eventually avoid gaps. To overcome these issues, this trial will compare the performa… Show more

“…Re-entry proved sufficient bone regeneration (b). After pre-drilling (c), the implant was placed with good primary stability and left for transmucosal healing (d) of infectious disease transmission, porcine or bovine origin) [14][15][16]. Covering the scaffold with a collagen membrane further supports the barrier function during CBR and helps to limit graft exposure during wound healing [17].…”

“…Moreover, with the evolution of biomaterials and technological tools applied to the medical area, new possibilities have emerged in bone reconstruction [36][37][38], even substituting autogenous and homologous bone grafts. Plenum® Oss-3Dβ [39] employs a superior level of technology, using a DICOM file for manufacturing by an additive technique using a 3D ceramic printer. This equipment will make a personalized alloplastic graft through lithography-based Ceramic Manufacturing technology.…”

“…The DLP method offered the shortest processing time. Mendonça et al [29] on increasing bone augmentation in dental implant studies, compared a sample taken from the patient (autograft) with a piece obtained by AM. Measuring the amount and quality of bone formation was preferred as the success criterion of the study.…”
