Purpose The purpose of this study is to review the effect of usability factors on e-learning user relationships, namely, student–student interaction (SSI), student–instructor interaction (SII) and student–content interaction (SCI), in the existing e-learning literature. Further, this study intended to identify whether usability contributes to the satisfaction of e-learners. Design/methodology/approach This study has undertaken a systematic review using the PRISMA methodology to filter the literature in the domain of e-learning with respect to usability concerns using six databases. An analytical framework has been formulated to evaluate the literature against different dimensions of interactions and usability. Findings Results reveal that while SSI has grabbed 71.4 per cent research attention with respect to usability factors of e-learning systems, SCI has been given the least focus, i.e. 26.6 per cent. According to the results, e-learning systems’ usability issues influence the user relationships and affect the user satisfaction, which will lead to lack of user continuity. Practical implications The findings of this review will provide insights to instructional designers to construct more satisfied learning content for the users. The analysis framework of this study will encourage researchers to drive future research in e-learning along with the concern of usability. Originality/value This research emphasizes on the importance of SCI to focus future e-learning research on a different angle, in addition to SSI and SII. The analysis framework of this study will provide different dimensions, specifically for the empirical research in the domain of e-learning.

Abstract-Today usability is a crucial factor that can affect any website. The purpose of this study is to explore major usability defects within Saudi university websites in comparison to British university websites from a Saudi student perspective. In addition, students are expected to achieve their goal when surfing a Saudi Arabian university website comfortably and efficiently without any complication. This study uses two methods to evaluate and measure usability problems; user testing and thinking aloud. Both methods are very useful and effective for collecting data from participants. Based on the ranking of the universities, 60 students were split evenly into three groups; each group was asked to evaluate a different pair of university websites from different ranking levels, one from the UK and the other from KSA. The evaluation performed by each group was gathered using the SUS (System Usability Scaling) questionnaire to find flaws within the usability of the website. During the experiment, the participants' opinions were collected using the thinking aloud method. The findings of this research showed that all Saudi universities in all tiers had significant problems within the usability of their websites. The most frequent problems found were, inconsistency, integration, confidence and satisfaction. Other less frequent problems that were found during this study were design concepts, easy use of websites and comfort of students. Saudi universities can learn from the differences in the quality between both sides to upgrade and redesign their website to achieve user satisfaction, therefore increasing the confidence of the users.

The online learning process or e-learning requires students to be able to use various Online Video Conference (OVC) applications such as Zoom, Google Hangout Meet and Microsoft Teams. As with other products, OVC user satisfaction must be the main concern of product development companies so that the product continues to be the choice and use of the user. For this reason, factors that can affect the satisfaction of using the OVC application need to be identified and understood. Unfortunately, currently there are not many studies related to the factors that affect user satisfaction of the OVC application. This study aims to determine what factors affect the satisfaction of users of online video conferencing, especially for users from among students. In this study, user satisfaction OVC will be analyzed from the usability aspect. The variables studied were usefulness, ease of use, ease of learning, perceived enjoyment, accessibility, security, and satisfaction. The results show that the variables usefulness, ease of use, ease of learning, perceived enjoyment, accessibility, and security have a simultaneous effect on user satisfaction.
