This paper considers a packet scheduling algorithm using two different priority metrics specified for each service to support integrated services of real-time (RT) and non-realtime (NRT) applications. In particular, as a packet scheduling algorithm for NRT service, this paper proposes a new minimum guaranteed throughput scheduling (MGBRS) algorithm with two priority metrics based on average throughput and the minimum guaranteed throughput requirement and its design objective is to increase the number of NRT service users satisfying the required minimum guaranteed throughput. For the performance evaluation of the proposed MGBRS scheme in a wireless communication system, this paper adopts a transmission structure of an orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) system. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide a significant improvement in terms of increase of the number of NRT service users satisfying the target outage probability and the per-cell total throughput performance by the number of NRT service users meeting the target outage probability is improved.

Abstract-In this paper, cognitive routing coupled with spectrum sensing and sharing in a multi-channel multi-hop cognitive radio network (CRN) is investigated. Recognizing the spectrum dynamics in CRN, we propose an opportunistic cognitive routing (OCR) protocol that allows users to exploit the geographic location information and discover the local spectrum access opportunities to improve the transmission performance over each hop. Specifically, based on location information and channel usage statistics, a secondary user (SU) distributedly selects the next hop relay and adapts its transmission to the dynamic spectrum access opportunities in its neighborhood. In addition, we introduce a novel metric, namely, cognitive transport throughput (CTT), to capture the unique properties of CRN and evaluate the potential relay gain of each relay candidate. A heuristic algorithm is proposed to reduce the searching complexity of the optimal selection of channel and relay. Simulation results are given to demonstrate that our proposed OCR well adapts to the spectrum dynamics and outperforms existing routing protocols in CRN.Index Terms-Cognitive radio, multi-hop transmission, opportunistic routing, dynamic spectrum access.

Abstract-A key challenge to low-latency wireless video streaming, where persistent retransmission is impractical, is error control. While SP-frame adaptation of H.264 has potential to mitigate error propagation, streaming server is often either situated too far to react in a timely fashion to client feedbacks, or too computationally constrained to perform the necessarily complex adaptation simultaneously for multiple clients in different sessions. In this paper, we present an innovative error control mechanism using SP-frames of H.264 and performed by a network intermediary for video streaming to a wireless client. Using an intermediary means it is more responsive to client feedbacks due to its close proximity, and it can offload computation complexity from the streaming server. Simulation shows that about 2 dB improvement in PSNR is achievable for video streaming with low latency requirements over traditional schemes using I and P-frames only.
