The Ultimate Rotating Resistance of the Belt Conveyors Rollers

Abstract: Belt conveyors are widely used in various transport systems. The major cost for their operation consists, most often, of the means for rollers maintenance especially when belt conveyors are in the dusty explosive environment, for example, in mining industry. To prevent or reduce probability of fires, it is necessary to prevent jamming of rollers. For this purpose the ultimate resistance of conveyor rollers at which their rotation stops, depending on the degree of filling of the belt cross-section area with car… Show more

“…In the roller, the possibility of many inaccuracies related to the mounting of the bearing, the simultaneous occurrence of radial and axial loads, radial runout, unbalance, applied sealing all combine to result in the rotational resistance [13,14]. Therefore, it is justified to choose a satisfactory method of testing roller rotational resistance and conduct laboratory tests to accurately estimate this parameter, especially for operational loads.…”

“…The idler sealings are usually poor; therefore, the accumulation of dust in conveyor systems can increase the rotation resistance of the conveyor idlers. Similarly, high ambient temperatures and sun reflection in hot, dry climates can increase the bearing temperature, which reduces the bearing life span [13]. The idler bearings' condition can be monitored by analyzing their surface temperatures, noise emissions, and vibrations [14,15].…”

“…Idler rolling resistance is the value of the force that must be applied to the casing surface in order to overcome the friction resistance moment in the bearing units [3]. The value of idler rolling resistance is influenced by many factors related to its design, quality of workmanship and operating conditions [4][5][6][7]. Table 1 lists the sources of idler rolling resistance.…”
