The UK transport carbon model: An integrated life cycle approach to explore low carbon futures

Abstract: Current debate focuses on the need for the transport sector to contribute to more ambitious carbon emission reduction targets. In the UK, various macro-economic and energy system wide, top-down models are used to explore the potential for energy demand and carbon emissions reduction in the transport sector. These models can lack the bottom-up, sectoral detail needed to simulate the effects of integrated demand and supply-side policy strategies to reduce emissions. Bridging the gap between short-term forecastin… Show more

“…An example is the recent Energy2050 work of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC) where UKTCM played a key role in developing the 'Lifestyle' scenarios (Anable et al, 2011;Anable et al, 2012). An introduction to the model has been published in Brand et al (2012); further details can be obtained from the Reference Guide (Brand, 2010a) and User Guide (Brand, 2010b).…”

“…There have been a number of recent studies which acknowledge the significance of double counting [58][59][60][61][62] but literature searches failed to identify a method to address double counting of policy impacts. On modelling the change scenarios, when mutually exclusive policies which impact on different sustainability indicators were modelled and then aggregated, sustainability impact results from policy bundles were as expected.…”
