The Type of Seeds Did Not Alter The Quality of Potato Tuber in Four Processing Potato Varieties

Abstract: Apical rooted cutting is a method to produce potato tuber seeds. This method used in potato tubers production as well. The experiment was conducted to evaluate the differences of potato tuber processing properties between those produced using tuber seeds and apical rooted cuttings in four processing potato varieties. Four main processing characteristics were analysed in the laboratory, were starch content, reducing sugar content, total soluble solid content, and specific gravity. As the result, four processing… Show more

“…From the results above, it is seen that the use of apical rooted cuttings as a transplant material in potato seed production is promising. Moreover, from previous study it is known that using apical rooted cuttings did not change the tuber quality properties as required in potato industry [13]. This has implications for the sustainability of the production of potato processing varieties, as well as the domestic potato-based industry while reducing dependence on imports of the raw materials.…”

“…Conventional propagation of G0 potato seeds from plantlets in Indonesia produces 3-5 tubers [1,2]. Thus, it takes a lot of cuttings to meet the needs of the national potato seed which has implications for the current inefficient national seed production [3][4][5]. Whereas on the other side, the G0 production business requires quite an expensive investment, a long business cycle, and special skills and expertise [4,6].…”
