“…In this connexion the phenomenon of calciolysis, which was detected for the first time after dialysis in five of the patients, is of interest. Only one of these five patients presents histological evidence of parathyroid overactivity, an association that would be anticipated if the view of Belanger et al (1965) on the role of the osteocyte in bone metabolism is accepted. One of our patients with calciolysis and other abnormalities of calcification does not present any histological features that can be unequivocally interpreted as due to parathyroid activity.…”

“…This was due to increased levels of serum PTH. His explanation for the osteolytic process was founded on Belanger's studies (Belanger et al 1966) which suggest that osteolysis is the main catabolic process in bone metabolism, whereas osteoclasia is considered to be of minor significance, occurring mainly on bony surfaces. Belanger maintained that the osteolytic process is accelerated with increased PTH production, increased consumption of vitamin D, primary hyperparathyroidism, and in osteogenesis iniperfecta and other forms of osteoporosis.…”

“…The free odontoblast processes and pink dentinal borders both suggest that the intercellular substance had been or was being decalcified. It is interesting tO' note that basophilia near resorption sites in bone has been interpreted as indicating that a decalcification process was going on (Ruth 19541961, Belanger et al 1966.…”
