AbstractIn this paper we intend to design, adapt and validate a qualitative tool such as a focus group to obtain insightful, valuable and illustrative information on concept of media competence in familiar settings, especially in families with children in training (early and primary education), because in these environments is especially important the educational value of concept of media literacy. The research method we have used is based on Focus Group techique, first validated by a group of experts from 7 Spanish universities, and second from the application of the first tool design to a selected sample through intentional sampling type.Our methodological approach is grounded on the conviction that media literacy involves understanding and management of both concepts and procedures and attitudes related to six basic dimensions (Ferrés, 2007).
