The triple-pomeron regime and structure function of the pomeron in diffractive deep inelastic scattering at very smallx

Abstract: We discuss the diffractive deep inelastic scattering at very small x and derive the properties of the diffractive dissociation of virtual photons in the triple-pomeron regime. We demonstrate that the photon-pomeron interactions can be described by the partonic structure function, which satisfies the QCD evolution equations, and identify the valence and sea (anti)quark and the valence gluon structure functions of the pomeron. The gluon structure function of the pomeron 1 can be described by the constituent gluo… Show more

“…Fock-states become important. On the free nucleon target, the effect of higher Fock-states, which contain gluons strongly ordered in rapidity can be resummed, and leads to the small-x evolution of the then x-dependent dipole cross section [14]. The multiple scatterings of the QQg-Fock state off a heavy nucleus are given by the first iteration of the nonlinear Balitsky-Kovchegov [15] evolution equation…”

“…The impact of specific inclusive channels on the total cross section (total photoabsorption cross section for DIS) is controlled by unitarity. The well known example is the so-called AGK rules for diffractive scattering (Pomeron exchange) [33], by which the opening of diffractive channels gives rise to the shadowing correction and reduces the proton structure function [35][36][37]. The gross features of this relationship can be understood as follows.…”

“…A further essential step is the inclusion of higher Fock states in the photon wave function. In the framework of two gluon exchange, corresponding calculations for the qqg state were performed in [52]. The main shortcoming of the twogluon approach is the problem of justifying perturbation theory.…”
