The Treatment of Distal Radius Articular Fractures Through LCP System

Abstract: We analysed LCP efficiency in type B and type C wrist fractures (according to the AO Classification). We treated 58 wrist fractures (19 B-type fractures and 39 C-type fractures) in 35 male and 23 female patients, aged 19 to 87 years. Forty-one cases were followed up for an average period of 13 months. We performed a volar approach on 32 patients, a dorsal approach on five, and a double approach on four (both volar and dorsal). Twenty-six cases were pre-operatively examined with CT. All patients were evaluated … Show more

“…Similar trend of type C outnumbering type B has been recorded by previous researchers. 8,20,21 Majority of the patients were operated within 3-6 days, with the mean time to surgery being 8 days, similar to the locally relevant study by Jose et al 19 No significant difference was observed in the various radiological parameters at the last follow, as compared to indicating that the fracture fixation was rigid in the present study and no further significant collapse of the fracture occurred post-surgery. Previous clinicians/ researchers also reported similar good radiological outcomes in fractures managed with volar locking plates, making case for surgeon-independence in the studied procedure.…”

“…Previous clinicians/ researchers also reported similar good radiological outcomes in fractures managed with volar locking plates, making case for surgeon-independence in the studied procedure. 8,9,19,21 Lidstrom score at last follow up shows good to excellent result in 90% of patient. Jose et al reported Lidstrom score to be good to excellent in 85.6% of the cases; while Kotian P et al observed the same in 75% of the studied participants.…”

“…5 Volar fixed angle locking plates are an effective treatment for unstable extra articular distal radius fractures allowing early post-operative rehabilitation. 6 Because of angular stability of locking compression plates reduction can be maintained over times so that secondary displacement is no longer a problem. 7 Primary stability achieved with locking screw in a plate prevents secondary displacement irrespective of the bone enabling good results in osteoporotic bones and young patients.…”

“…7 Volar fixed angle locking plates are an effective treatment for unstable extra articular distal radius fractures allowing early post-operative rehabilitation. 8 Because of angular stability of locking compression plates reduction can be maintained over times so that secondary displacement is no longer a problem. 9 MATERIALS AND METHODS: 20 patients with fractures of distal radius were selected who were admitted in hospital, during July 2012 to July 2014.…”
