The Trauma Symptom Checklist (TSC-33)

Abstract: A 33-item Trauma Symptom Checklist (TSC-33) is presented, and the psychometric properties of this scale are summarized from four separate studies. Developed to assess the impact of childhood abuse on later (adult) functioning, the TSC-33 consists of five subscales (Dissociation, Anxiety, Depression, Post-Sexual Abuse Trauma-hypothesized [PSAT-h], and Sleep Disturbance) and a total scale score. Data suggest that the TSC-33 and its associated subscales are reasonably reliable measures that display some predictiv… Show more

“…Respondents use a four-point scale (from 0 = "never" to 3 = "often") to rate the frequency with which they have experienced each symptom during the past 2 months. The TSC Total score demonstrates strong internal reliability (alphas ranging from .89 to .91; Briere & Runtz, 1989;Elliott& Briere, 1992) and was selected as the primary outcome variable for the study. The TSC-40 and its predecessor, the TSC-33, have also shown predictive validity with reference to abroad range of traumatic experiences, including being a victim of intimate violence (Dutton, 1995) and vicarious traumatization in psychotherapists with large caseloads of traumatized clients (Chrestman, 1995).…”

“…TSC-40: This 40-item self-report instrument was derived from earlier version of the Trauma Symptom Checklist-33 [23] to evaluate symptomatology in adults associated with childhood or adult traumatic experiences [24].
