The transmissivity measuring device for geotextile and application of its test result

Abstract

AkiraIshikawa (OYO Corporation) SYNOPSIS.The transmissivity measuring device, in which a cylindrical geotextile section is used, was developed. The test results show that there are a wide range of transmissivity among geotextile on the market, and that these reduce considerably with increase of normal stress.The drain efficiency of geotextile, based on the numerical analysis by Gibson et al (1968), was obtained using the Gibson's curve, and compared with the results of field observation.Both of the drain efficiency agrees well. It is very useful to estimate the drain efficiency of each geotextile according to the condition of soil, drainage length and a term of works when to make a good choice among various kinds of geotextiles.
