The transformations of medicalization of pain relief in the organization of perinatal care system in Quebec

Issu d’une enquête de terrain auprès de femmes et sages-femmes dans une maternité de niveau 1, cet article analyse comment l’accouchement physiologique, promu comme espace d’autonomie des femmes, peut lui-même produire de la domination. Il identifie la force des discours et pratiques, producteurs d’alternatives à l’accouchement avec péridurale, mais aussi leurs limites en tant qu’idéologies individualiste et naturaliste. Pour finir, il propose l’idée d’une autonomisation relationnelle et critique comme contribution à la libération des rapports de domination.
