The tolerance analysis of wide-angle lens

Abstract: A paper design is the design, which has the theoretical design only and without considering the manufacturing errors. Therefore, the final performance of the lens assembly might degrade far apart from the paper design. An example of wide-angle lens tolerance analysis is presented. The numerical and graphical aberration degradation analysis shows the useful method to decide the individual lens element manufacturing tolerance. INTROUDUCTIONThe duty of lens designer is to make sure that the design lens has met al… Show more

“…Once the design is optimized to satisfactory performance, we will move to second step. Typical industrial standard of tolerances has been input into the Monte-Carlo analysis [14][15]. The tolerances applied to the Monte-Carlo includes the lens surface profile fabrication error in micron or fringes, the lens front and back surface de-centre and tilt, the lens elements assembly tilt and de-centre error and lastly the lens material refractive index and Abbe…”

“…For wide angle imaging systems, on which the front surface is generally large compared to the other lenses in the system, tolerance analysis can be more challenging and proper tolerances have to be specified to ensure that required performances are obtained. They are often very sensitive [1] and ray tracing errors are frequent in optical design programs at large field angles due to large entrance pupil shifts. This paper identifies another important difference in tolerancing panoramic systems.…”

“…Rodgers [10] uses CODE V to analyze the tolerance of null lenses, and compares the results in practice and the design of the software. Huang [11] analyzes the manufacturing tolerance of a wide angle lens by the optical software Zemax, going through the Monte Carlo method to analyze the sensitivity of each element. The minimum decenter value is used to measure the experimental data and get the best possible results with the Taguchi method by Chen et al [12].…”
