Third World studies is a conversation about society and the human condition broadly. The subjects of Third World studies are power and the oppressed and exploited masses. Power or agency expressed as the discourses and practices of race, gender, sexuality, (dis)ability, class, and nation conceives the social formation. The Third World designates regions of the world held captive by imperialism, colonialism, and capitalism. The Third World is also a project of anticolonialism and antiracism and, more comprehensively, liberation from all forms of oppression and exploitation.
