The Thing in the Poem:Maud's Hymen

Abstract: matthew rowlinson teaches English and Comparative Literature at Dartmouth College. He is the author of Tennyson's Fixations:Psychoanalysis and the Topics of the Early Poetry (University Press of Virginia, 1994). Besides other articles on Victorian literature, he has also written on monetary history. His current project is a book on literary allegory, paper money, and materiality in the long nineteenth century.
