“…The action of the toxins from this type of mushroom is, appar¬ ently, more rapid than is that of the poisons present in the various forms of Amanita phalloides. Thus there are in general two types of mushroom poisoning that may be encountered: the so-called rapid type (mycetismus nervosus), due to Amanita muscaria, and the delayed type (mycetismus choleriformis) caused by the 1 various forms of Amanita phalloides. The rapid type of poisoning occurs within one to three hours after the ingestion of the fungi and is characterized by excessive salivation, perspiration and lacrimation.…”
