The temperature stabilization system of CUORICINO: an array of macro bolometers

Abstract: We present our circuit solution for the implementation of a very simple temperature stabilization system of an array of 62 large mass bolometric detectors, CUORICINO. The implemented instrument exploits one of the front-end channels to close the feedback loop between a thermistor and a heather, both of them located on the detector holder in the refrigerating system. A very compact layout was developed that avoids any possible presence of EMI interference, which would otherwise be introduced if a commercial ins… Show more

“…The temperature stabilization of the tower is made by means of a thermistor and a heater glued to it. An electronic channel is used for a feed back system [56]. The entire setup is shielded with two layers of lead of 10 cm minimum thickness each.…”

“…3 at ∼400 Hz arises from a resonance that enhances the thermal noise generated within the thermistor. This occurs when the impedance of the parasitic capacitance of the link becomes smaller than that of the thermistor, which is a fed-backed device [44]. The bump is found at the border of the bandwidth of the signal and is rejected from the optimum filter algorithm.…”

“…Significant improvements interested the whole data production chain, with the implementation of a PID controller for the temperature stabilization [89], a new frontend electronics [90] and a software trigger for the data acquisition [91]. 12 Cuoricino [92] took the place of MiDBD in the Hall A cryostat.…”
