We think posterior capsule rupture in children provokes a sudden and complete opacification of the lens, which we have called acute infantile leucocoria. However, in adults, posterior capsule rupture as described by Ho et al. seems to result in partial dislocation of the lens in the vitreous, with remaining dense cortical material in the lens capsular bag. We think the contrast between these two descriptions shows that age is a factor in the behavior of the crystalline lens in spontaneous posterior capsule rupture.
