The Synthetic Elicitor DPMP (2,4-dichloro-6-{(E)-[(3-methoxyphenyl)imino]methyl}phenol) Triggers Strong Immunity in Arabidopsis thaliana and Tomato

Abstract: Synthetic elicitors are drug-like compounds that are structurally distinct from natural defense elicitors. They can protect plants from diseases by activating host immune responses and can serve as tools for the dissection of the plant immune system as well as leads for the development of environmentally-safe pesticide alternatives. By high-throughput screening, we previously identified 114 synthetic elicitors that activate expression of the pathogen-responsive CaBP22−333::GUS reporter gene in Arabidopsis thal… Show more

“…Bechtsis, Tsolakis, Vlachos, and Iakovou () argued that heavy financial penalties should be imposed on polluted logistical operations and vehicles for better environmental sustainability. Bektas et al () and Khan and Dong () emphasized the need of green practices and utilization of renewable energy in logistics and supply chain operations to control/mitigate harmful effects on environment and society.…”

“…The color is stable, and the resultant specimen can be stored for several days. To date, various studies have used this blue coloration as a trait for the screening of plant disease resistance elicitors 29,30 . JA signaling can be used as a marker pathway for the identification of synthetic chemical elicitors for the biological control of pests and diseases because of its crucial role in the regulation of plant defense 31,32 .…”

“…This pattern resembles the concept of hormesis often deployed by toxicologists to describe the response to toxins, where exposure to a low dose is beneficial while a higher dose results toxicity due to overcompensation in response to disruption of homeostasis 53 . While tissue-specific hormetic responses have been described in flies, where a virus-acquired cytokine relays ageing 54 , and examples of abiotic factors or signalling molecules affecting peas and aphid infestation 55 , immunity in plants 56,57 , life-span in malaria-transmitting Anopheles 58 , and larval development in Black Cutworm 59 , this example here could be the first involving a eukaryotic host-pathogen relationship. The underlying factor remains to be elucidated but C. neoformans ’ highly immunogenic capsule seems to be an excellent candidate 48 .…”
