The Synthesis of Conical Carbon

Abstract: Conical carbon, specifically multi‐walled carbon nanocones (CNCs) and single‐walled carboncones, is a new class of sp2‐hybridized carbon allotrope, in addition to fullerene, carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and graphene. Characterized by a conical and delocalized aromatic configuration, the conical carbon structure is considered the intermediate structure between planar graphene and open‐cage fullerene. CNCs can be stiffer than CNTs and exhibit intriguing physical and chemical properties owing to their unique hollow c… Show more

“…Such alternatives encompass perovskite solar cells, organic solar cells, and quantum dot cells. [ 23,430–432 ] Perovskite solar cells in particular are a very promising technology and are already produced by inkjet printing and commercialized by a company named Saule Technologies. [ 433 ] Smart packaging is another area that has been benefiting from these materials and technologies.…”

“…Belonging to a special family of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), , carboncones are regarded as the intermediate structure from planar graphene to open-cage fullerenes . In spite of their possible structural detection in earlier experiments, atomically precise synthesis of carboncones has only been achieved since very recently. , In 2019, Zhang and co-workers prepared a single-walled carbon nanocone and its derivative, C 70 H 15 R 5 (R = H or mesityl) via a bottom-up organic synthesis.…”
