The Synthesis of Carboxymethyl Chitosan-Pectin Film as Adsorbent for Lead (II) Metal

Abstract: Abstract-The aim of this study was to develop a procedure for preparing film polyelectrolyte complex pectine/chitosan with increased sorption capacity for heavy metal ions which could be used as adsorbent to remove lead (II) ion in waste water. A film of the polyelectrolyte complex between chitosan and pectin were prepared by mixing the complex of both polysaccharides. Firstly, chitosan was grafted with acetate to form carboxymetyl chitosan (CMC). Subsequently, CMC is mixed with pectin to form CMC/pectin film.… Show more

“…In addition, the important factor, related to the components, is M and DD of chitosan and the substitution degree of the chitosan derivatives, in the case of their use for the biomaterials obtaining . For example, a water ‐ soluble chitosan derivatives, such as N,O‐carboxymethyl‐chitosan or O‐carboxymethyl‐chitosan can be synthesized . The substitution degree determines the number of chitosan reactive groups (amine and hydroxyl groups).…”

[38][39][40] The substitution degree determines the number of chitosan reactive groups (amine and hydroxyl groups). The polyelectrolyte complex between carboxymethyl-chitosan and pectin can be formed when both polymers were ionized and oppositely charged.…”

“…The membrane produced was then characterized using an FTIR spectrophotometer. The FTIR spectra of chitosan-pectin PEC membrane cross-linked with glutaraldehyde can be seen in 1627 cm-1 which shows the existence of stretching vibrations of -COand -COOH clusters, (Hastuti & Siswanta, 2013) and (Wang, et.al, 2014).…”

“…Rich in active groups, these two components could interact through ionic and/or hydrogen bonding. Furthermore, to tailor‐made the properties required for the food packaging application pectin/CMC system could be additionally cross‐linked by multivalent metal cations due to the polyanionic nature of both components . These formulations usually require the addition of plasticizers, such as glycerol or sorbitol.…”
