“…The common causes of painful joint swelling associated with diffuse synovial thickening and focal nodular conglomeration include synovial inflammation due to autoimmune disease particularly RA and SLE; crystal-induced synovitis especially urate and calcium pyrophosphate arthropathy; and synovial infection notably tuberculosis (9). Other causes include proliferative synovial lesions, commonest PVNS, less common are synovial chondromatosis and benign primary synovial tumors such as synovial hemangioma while primary malignant synovial tumors are rare (9).
