The Swiss data cube, analysis ready data archive using earth observations of Switzerland

Abstract: Since the opening of Earth Observation (EO) archives (USGS/NASA Landsat and EC/ESA Sentinels), large collections of EO data are freely available, offering scientists new possibilities to better understand and quantify environmental changes. Fully exploiting these satellite EO data will require new approaches for their acquisition, management, distribution, and analysis. Given rapid environmental changes and the emergence of big data, innovative solutions are needed to support policy frameworks and related acti… Show more

“…Given the rapid environmental changes and the increase in the quantity of available data, innovative solutions are needed to elaborate and produce accurate outputs for the epidemiologists and decision makers. This would prompt toward a data cube approach ( 68 ), which could improve the efficiency for both data extraction and analysis, once combined with Machine Learning techniques and algorithms.…”

“…Continuing advances in GIS technology have established mapping as a crucial means of identifying connections between the state of the climate and other areas of concern. Open-source databases allow for unprecedented collections of spatial information, and high-speed data processing reveals changing conditions in real time (e.g., [ 42 – 44 ]).…”

“…The Open Data Cube (ODC) is a well-known implementation of EODC helping scientists work with Analysis Ready Data (ARD) [4]. The ODC focuses on real environmental issues [23] instead of managing and solving EO Big Data challenges. National ODC systems have already been successfully implemented and provided by several countries [5] to monitor, detect and potentially resolve various types of environmental problems, like Australia [6], Switzerland [23], Brazil [22], or Armenia [7].…”
