“…The aim of treatment should be to restore the normal contours of the ear and prevent infection. Prompt surgical intervention under good antibiotic cover as applied in our patients achieved this [3][4][5][6][7][8]. Pressure dressing following surgical drainage helped to avoid re-accumulation in case of haematoma.…”

“…However, auricular injury in a child without a confirmed history of trauma should raise the suspicion of a possible child abuse [1] as in bilateral ear injuries in children less than 1 year of age [2]. Lesions encountered include swelling or haematoma [3][4][5][6][7][8], Lacerations [2,4], abrasions or even complete avulsion. Middle ear injury frequently results from direct trauma through the external auditory canal.…”

“…In treating these lesions, careful dissection of this tissue before the application of an appropriate pressure dressing must be performed to prevent the deformity of cauliflower ear (36). To achieve a thin, normally contoured auricle, the newly formed fibroneocartilaginous layer, along with the attached perichondrium, must be completely excised (37).…”

“…Lee EC, Soliman AM and Kim J 2 have stressed the necessity of window operation as a primary measure. O'Donnell BP and Eliezri YD 3 have also stressed that drainage and removing a piece of cartilage and perichondrium would cure the condition rather simply aspirating the seroma. Many patients were reluctant for the window operation at the first instance as it had to be carried out in the minor operation theatre.…”
