The SUMMA Platform Prototype

Abstract: We present the first prototype of the SUMMA Platform: an integrated platform for multilingual media monitoring. The platform contains a rich suite of low-level and high-level natural language processing technologies: automatic speech recognition of broadcast media, machine translation, automated tagging and classification of named entities, semantic parsing to detect relationships between entities, and automatic construction / augmentation of factual knowledge bases. Implemented on the Docker platform, it can … Show more

“…Finally, we discussed how to leverage different SVM training procedures for ranking and classification to improve monolingual and crosslingual clustering decisions. Our system is integrated in a larger media monitoring project (Liepins et al, 2017;Germann et al, 2018) and solving the usecases of monitors and journalists, having been validated with qualitative user testing.…”

“…SUMMA (Liepins et al, 2017) is another comparable system which integrates a variety of NLP components and provides support for numerous media and languages, to simultaneously monitor several media broadcasts. SUMMA applies the online clustering algorithm by Aggarwal and Yu (2006) and the extractive summarization algorithm by Almeida and Martins (2013).…”
