The Success Rate of the Adhesive Partial Fixed Prosthesis after Five Years: A Systematic Review

Abstract: Objective: Evaluation of the success and/or survival rates of resin-bonded fixed partial dentures (RBFPDs) reported in the scientific literature with a minimum average observation time of five years. Materials and Methods: Search conducted in Pubmed, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases in free-text format and MESH terms, until May 2021. The random-effects model was used for the estimated survival rate, percentage per year of estimated failure, and existing complications for the meta-analysis. Study heteroge… Show more

“…The discussions within the review emphasize the necessity for well-fabricated dentures and highlight that while current studies support the benefits of dentures in TMD management, further high-quality randomized clinical trials are required to solidify these findings and optimize treatment protocols. This review provides a foundational perspective on the intersection of prosthodontics and temporomandibular health, pointing towards a nuanced understanding of the biomechanical and rehabilitative interactions facilitated by complete dentures in managing TMDs [49][50][51].…”

“…However, digital methods can be cost-prohibitive and require significant investments in technology and training. The aspect of sustainability in prosthodontic practices, particularly through the selection of materials and techniques, is increasingly important [13,14,29,36,51]. Moreover, the durability of the selected materials reduces the frequency of prosthesis replacement, thereby decreasing waste and promoting sustainability in dental practice.…”

“…The axial groove preparation method was employed to standardize the insertion line and ensure precise placement of the bridge 16 . Various metal surface treatment techniques were utilized to enhance the mechanical retention of metal adhesive bridges, including perforation in Rochet Bridge, lost salt and acrylic granules methods, electrolytic etching in Maryland Bridge, and traditional Mesh bridge 17 , 18 . The exocad software was utilized to design virtual adhesive bridges with small retentive holes of precise dimensions and unique shapes to align with advancements in dentistry 10 , 14 .…”

“…Future studies should aim to elucidate the underlying mechanisms through which DM affects PH and explore potential interventions to improve healing outcomes in diabetic patients. Additionally, investigating the impact of different levels of diabetic control, duration of diabetes, and the role of specific treatment modalities on PH would provide valuable insights for clinical decision-making( Ali et al, 2023 , Lo Giudice and Machado, 2023 , Makanjuola and Deb, 2023 , Marwan and Todo, 2022 , Polychronakis et al, 2023 , Romanos et al, 2023 , Santos et al, 2023 ). The findings also call for enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration between dental and medical professionals.…”
