The subsurface temperature assessment by means of an indirect electromagnetic geothermometer

Abstract: Advances have been made in the subsurface temperature estimation basing on the indirect electromagnetic geothermometer. The approach used was based on the artificial neural network technique, which, contrary to other available approaches, does not imply the prior knowledge of the electrical conductivity mechanisms and rock properties. Application of the indirect EM geothermometer to the interwell space interpolation in three areas (Tien Shan, Kyrgyzstan; Soultz-sous-Forêts, France; and Hengill, Iceland) charac… Show more

“…This contrast between the magma and the hosting geological units represents an appropriate framework for the application of electromagnetic methods, such as magnetotellurics (MT) (e.g. Newman et al 1985;Moroz et al 1988;Park and Torres-Verdin 1988;Spichak 2001Spichak , 2012.…”

“…Разработаны оптимальные методики калибровки косвенного электромагнитного геотермометра в различных геологических условиях [Spichak et al, 2011;Spichak and Zakharova, 2012]. В частности, показано, что с помощью ЭМ геотермометра, калиброванного по 6-8 термограммам, можно снизить среднюю относительную погрешность оценки температуры до 12%.…”

“…Temperature estimation at the depth beneath the boreholes is carried out using indirect geothermometers [see, for instance, Spichak and Zakharova ()], by extrapolating the temperature gradient in wells (Foulger ; Björnsson ) or by solving the heat flow equation (Ollinger et al . ).…”
