The structures and properties of bio‐based polyamide 56 fibers prepared by high‐speed spinning

Abstract: Bio‐based polyamide 56 (PA56) fibers with the circular and trefoil cross‐sections were prepared by high‐speed spinning process. The pre‐oriented yarns (POY) and draw‐textured yarns (DTY) of PA56 were studied. The results showed that γ phase crystal dominated in POY with relative high degrees in the crystallinity and crystal orientation. In DTY, the drawing effect made the crystal transform from γ to α phase with the properties of the enhanced thickness of the crystal plate and the more order arranged molecules… Show more

“…Adipic acid can be prepared from glucose as raw material, and pentane diamine can be prepared from grease route and sugar route. 8,9 Bio-based pentanediamine can be obtained by microbial fermentation, it can be directly converted from lysine to pentanediamine by constructing an Escherichia coli system through a whole cell method. L-Lysine is the precursor of pentylenediamine.…”

“…The dried chips were introduced into the screw extruder, converted from solid to melt under high temperature, and then the melt was pushed through the pipeline to the spinning assembly by the metering pump; after the filaments were ejected from the spinneret, they were bundled, oiled, and then wound into as‐spun yarns. The as‐spun yarns were passed through heated roller and a winding device to prepare the fully drawn yarns 32,33 . The diagram of fibers preparation is shown in Figure 1.…”

“…Currently, only a few polyamides can be partially or totally replaced from biosources [ 3 ]. Polyamide 56 (PA56), based on 1, 5-pentane diamine from biomass, is one with excellent fluidity, moisture absorption, and mechanical properties for applications in the textile industry [ 4 ], but the applications of PA56 in other areas are frequently limited by its high moisture absorption rate and low thermal stability compared with PA66. By introducing terephthalic acid into the polymer chains, polyamide 56T (PA56T) has a significant improvement in moisture absorption and mechanical properties, which is desirable for application as a thermoplastic engineering plastic.…”
