The Structure of Macrozoobenthos Community as a Bioindicator of Water Quality in Gilimanuk Bay, Jembrana Regency, Bali

Abstract: Gilimanuk Bay is a water area located in Melaya District, Jembrana Regency, West Bali Region. In this area, there are development and human activities that have an impact on the quality of the waters so that they interfere with the life of organisms such as macrozoobenthos. Macrozoobenthos can be the bioindicator that determining the condition in a water area. The decline of the macrozoobenthos community structure is an indicator of a disturbance in the ecosystem in these waters. The purpose of this research t… Show more

“…These species have habitats or live in mangrove areas with muddy substrate types. This species' mobility level is relatively high compared to other species, so this species can be found at almost all stations [43]. Family Thiaridae is a group of macrozoobenthos most commonly found in the waters of Gerupuk Bay.…”

“…The macrozoobenthos community consists of five groups: mollusca, polychaeta, crustaceans, echinoderms, and other groups of several small taxons such as Sipunculidae and Pogonophora ( Ndale, Restu & Wijayanti, 2021 ). Barnacles (Crustaceans: Cirripedia) are a group of crustaceans that dominate certain zones of rocky coastal areas and are considered excellent biomonitoring organisms due to their widespread and abundant distribution around the world, easy collectibility, sessile adult life, and relative tolerance to contaminants ( Vaezzadeh et al, 2021 ).…”

“…as a neutralizer of the aquatic environment by breaking down organic matters that enter the bottom of the waters into a food source so that the nutritional conditions of the waters become stable (Alavaisha et al 2019). Changes strongly influence the macrozoobenthic composition, abundance, diversity, water quality, and the substrate where they live so that macrozoobenthos is also commonly used as biological water quality indicator (Kadim et al 2013;Laini et al 2018;Harahap et al 2018;Herawati et al 2020;Kefford et al 2020;Lestari and Rahmanto 2020;Sulaeman et al 2020;Baryshev 2021;Costa et al 2021;Ndale et al 2021;Prajoko et al 2021;Sueb et al 2021).…”
