Abstract: Most pathogenic bacteria require ferrous iron (Fe2+) in order to sustain infection within hosts. The ferrous iron transport (Feo) system is the most highly-conserved prokaryotic transporter of Fe2+, but its mechanism remains to be fully characterized.
