The stretch zone of automotive steel sheets

Abstract: The paper deals with an experimental determination of the stretch zone dimensions in the notch tip in thin steel sheets. The stretch zone dimensions depend on steel grade, on the rolling direction as well as on the loading rate. Stretch zones were observed and measured on three steel grades. Fracture area and stretch zones were analysed by SEM. Stable crack growth was monitored by videoextensometry techniques on CT (Compact Tension) specimens. Specimens were loaded under two loading rates by eccentric tension,… Show more

“…Furthermore, the blunting occurs in the elastoplastic region (Figure 4b-i). As a result of blunting in the second stage, shear deformation of the root-stretch zone is observed [35] (Figure 4j). In the third stage, crack initiation occurs (Figure 4k), which in the fourth stage increases its length through stable growth.…”

“…During the test, the test specimens were exposed to the tensile load at the speed of 100 mm/min until the rupture occurred, at the ambient temperature. During the test, a video extensometer (vidoeXtens) was used to measure the elongation [24] of the predefined length of the working section of the test specimen which was marked with white reference lines drawn using a template. Three test specimens were prepared for the test; they were cut out of the conveyor belt in the transversal direction and the basic mechanical properties of these test specimens were determined.…”

“…The grooves are free to broaden due to radial pressure when the muscle is being filled. Tensile forces are transmitted through extremely strong polymer fibres located in every groove of the membrane [15][16][17]. Such pneumatic artificial muscle was named the Pleated Pneumatic Artificial Muscles-PPAM.…”
