“…IPSS questionnaire is an internationally used timing scoring system for the incidence of prostate symptoms and the degree of tolerance to current symptoms. Postoperative IPSS of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05), suggesting that the severity of prostatic hyperplasia symptoms was alleviated by cystostomy and transurethral four-zone division bipolar plasma partial prostatic enucleation [17]. As one of the important indicators to evaluate the therapeutic effect, quality of life (QOL) is paramount to evaluate the therapeutic effect of the treatment of chronic diseases.…”

“…Although prostate MRI is not routinely obtained before BPH interventions in clinical practice, a small number of investigations have explored the role of preprocedural MRI for predicting outcomes of BPH interventions. In one study, a longitudinal (craniocaudal greater than transverse dimension) rather than oval shape (transverse greater than craniocaudal dimension) of the prostate on MRI was associated with improved procedural efficiency but no difference in patient outcomes after holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) [24] In an additional study, adenomatous BPH on MRI was associated with better outcomes at 12 months (but not 24 months) after prostate artery embolization (PAE) [25]. Further, in an age-matched case control study with a total of 24 patients, patients with hypervascularized adenomatous-dominant BPH on MRI responded better to PAE versus those with non-adenomatous-dominant BPH [26].…”

“…MLH, depicted on sagittal T2WI as intravesical prostatic protrusion, is thought to cause LUTS in some patients via a ball-valve mechanism [17,22]. However, presence of MLH does not affect outcomes after photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) [27], Rezum [28], or PAE [25].…”

“…5 PAE appears to alleviate both static and dynamic components of BPE, although the exact mechanism and extent for each is still under investigation. 6,7 Several prospective studies have demonstrated short to mid-term safety and efficacy of PAE across gland sizes. 8,9 Recently, two of the most experienced groups have published their 10-year experience with PAE, demonstrating long-term safety and efficacy.…”
