Callers to suicide prevention centers are mainly helped by volunteers trained to face these crisis situations. This study evaluated this process of intervention in order to better understand the nature of the interventions and their determinants. A total of 617 calls with suicidal clients were classified with a 20‐category rating instrument, the Helper's Response List. Cluster analysis determined that the 617 intervention profiles could match one of two styles: nondirective (“Rogerian”‐391 calls) or directive (226 calls). Further analyses indicated that the particular style of intervention was related more to the characteristics of the callers themselves than to characteristics of volunteers.

Background: The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness of Animal-Assisted Interventions (AAIs), particularly Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) and Animal-Assisted Activity (AAA), in improving mental health outcomes for students in higher education. The number of students in higher education reporting mental health problems and seeking support from universities’ student support services has risen over recent years. Therefore, providing engaging interventions, such as AAIs, that are accessible to large groups of students are attractive. Methods: MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase and Cochrane Library were searched from relative inception to end of April 2020. Additionally, a grey literature search was undertaken. Independent screening, data extraction and risk of bias assessment were completed, with varying percentages, by two reviewers. Results: After de-duplication, 6248 articles were identified of which 11 studies were included in the narrative synthesis. The evidence from randomised controlled trials suggests that AAIs could provide short-term beneficial results for anxiety in students attending higher education but with limited evidence for stress, and inconclusive evidence for depression, well-being and mood. For the non-statistically significant results, the studies either did not include a power calculation or were under-powered. Conclusions: Potential emerging evidence for the short-term benefits of AAI for anxiety, and possibly stress, for students in higher education was found.

An evaluation of the available outcome studies using personal construct therapy is much needed. This evaluation begins with a brief account of some of the major assumptions and practices of the therapy. A description of the 19 studies includes type of therapy, country of origin, type of client, client age, client sample size focus of the outcome data, type of analysis, and whether the outcome was favorable. The evaluation of the studies deals with these aspects of the research: sampling, design, measures of the dependent variables, analyses, and treatment validation. Effect sizes for nine of the studies are calculated and examined. There are also seven important issues that need to be considered in evaluating this research. Finally, given the evidence from a number of sound studies, I endorse the use of this therapy and suggest that further rigorous studies be conducted on the impact of personal construct therapy.Personal construct therapy (Kelly, 1955) appeals to a widening range of therapists. Its supporters find it to be both empowering and liberating for clients (Epting, 1984;Fransella & Dalton, 1990
