The Stability of Thiocomplexes and Solubility Products of Metal Sulphides: I. Cadmium Sulphide

Abstract: The nature and stability of cadmium sulphide complexes in aqueous solutions have been investigated. The total concentration of the metal in solution was determined a t constant temperature and ionic strength, and a t various pH values, by a radioactive tracer technique.

“…Dyrssen and Wedborg (1991) showed, using correspondence plots for Hg stability constants, and theory relating to calculation of mixed ligand complexes (Anfalt et al, 1968) differs by approximately 12 log units. Similar incompatibilities were also recognized in computing the intrinsic solubility products for ZnS and CdS, based respectively on the work by Gubeli and Ste-Marie (1967) and by Ste-Marie et al (1964).…”

“…PVDF and PTFE membranes were selected as the candidate filters since Hg is considered to have a weak affinity with these two materials. 201 Hg 2+ in NaNO3/NaOH solution (50 μg L -1 ) with a pH of 4-6 and 8 was filtered through the candidate filters, and 201 Hg 2+ concentrations in the filtrates were determined by the isotope-dilution method.…”

“…After shaking well, 10 mL sample was collected from each bottle using a 10 mL syringe and filtered through a 0.22 µm PTFE membrane filter. 201 HgCl2 was added into the rest bottles with cinnabar suspension to form a final concentration of 1, 6, 20, and 50 μg L -1 as 201 Hg, respectively. After shaking well, 10 mL suspension sample was immediately taken from each bottle and filtered through 0.22 µm PTFE membrane.…”
