“…[28] The relative intensity of the peaks B and C reflects sensitively the local atomic arrangement around titanium ions. [29,30] The rutile TiO 2 reference displays the well-resolved peaks B and C, in which the intensity of the peak C is much stronger than that of the peak B. Conversely, a sharp feature B with very weak peak C is discernible for the anatase TiO 2 . Because the precursor P25 contains a larger amount of anatase TiO 2 with a smaller amount of rutile TiO 2 , [22,23] the 0D-TOAP nanohybrid and the reference P25 commonly show a stronger and sharper peak B corresponding to the anatase TiO 2 phase with a smaller feature C related to the rutile TiO 2 phase.…”

“…[9,10] On the other hand, when a higher oxygen background is used, fully stoichiometric NSs of different thickness can be prepared, where oxygen atoms are located at the interface with the Pt substrate. [11][12][13] In particular, we have already shown that a lepidocrocitelike [14] fully stoichiometric NS (named rect-TiO 2 according to the previously reported nomenclature) can be formed under strongly oxidative conditions (P O2 = 1 10 À4 Pa) on both Pt (111) and (1 2)-Pt(110) surfaces: [11][12][13] On the former it has been found that the NS is characterized by a rectangular unit cell and that the film is incommensurate with respect to the substrate. [11] The same lepidocrocite-like structure with an almost identical unit cell has also been found in the early stages of epitaxy on (1 2)-Pt(110) under the same preparative conditions; however, in this case, the NS forms a 14 4 commensurate superstructure with respect to the substrate.…”

“…An exfoliated titanate layered compound, TBAOH x Ti 2Àx=4 Ã x=4 O 4 ðx $ 0:7; Ã, vacancy; TBAOH ¼ tetrabutylammonium hydroxide), was a donation from Dr. T. Sasaki (NIMS, Tsukuba, Japan) [18,19]. The average dimensions of the TiO 2 sheets are 0:75Â $ 1000Â $1000 nm 3 according to the previous reports [18][19][20][21][22].…”
